In this series called ‘Meet the UNAWE ambassadors!’ we introduce our ambassadors, who always work hard throughout the year to educate children about Astronomy and inspire them with our wonderful cosmos. Every month we put one of our unsung heroes in the spotlight. In this month’s episode, we introduce Suman Gautam from Nepal!
Name: Suman Gautam
Age: 27 Years
Country: Nepal
Institute: Nepal Astronomical Society (NASO)
Study/Profession: Student
Interests: Space Physics
Favorite food: Nepali Thali
Most fun UNAWE experience: During an activity with the Earth Ball, two siblings started playing with it. The other students tried to locate Nepal on the ball, which was difficult for them. Finally, when they started doing it as a team, they could locate Nepal easily. But the two siblings came and said to me: ‘It’s a globe, our home planet, preserve it.’ That type of situation makes the programme interesting. All students clapped and said we learn only by ourselves.
Reasons for joining UNAWE ambassador programme: The UNAWE programmme allows me to reduce the supertitious beliefs prevaled in our society and helps me to do educational activities with children and inspire them with our wonderful cosmos. Beside all the other, The UNAWE network gives me the chance to interact with the global community and share ideas and beliefs to achieve the mission.
Favorite UNAWE resource: Earth Ball
Favorite aspect of Astronomy: Mars exploration and the human intend to settle on Mars.
Plans for next UNAWE activity: Conducting astroclasses with 6 to 8 year old students.
Message I want to give to kids around the world: Astronomy is a fascinating subject. We can cherish astronomy not only in theory but also by the observational activities. The newly made instruments of this era resolve the mysteries of the Universe. With devotion and passion, we can learn to resolve the remaining mysteries.
Anything else: With the infinite boundaries of astronomy, we can share ideas and feelings from every corner of the sky. Let’s communicate and share ideas with more people as much as we can.
