A Giant Ring of Black Holes

This space photograph shows a ring of black holes three times larger than the Milky Way! The black holes are hidden within the bright blue and pink ring around the galaxy on the right-side of the picture. It formed when one galaxy crashed into another, sending a shockwave rippling through the galaxy that pushing material outwards and creating this expanding ring of cosmic gas. It also triggered the birth of new stars, some of which later turned into black holes.
